The organizers and the most zealous participants in the unauthorized rallies that took place in Moscow on July 27 are being punished for violating the law. A number of Moscow courts arrested for various terms unregistered by the Central Election Commission candidates for Moscow City Duma deputies.

Thus, the Troitsky Court of Moscow added another 10 days of arrest to the oppositionist Ilya Yashin to the 10 already existing, the Zyuzinsky District Court of Moscow arrested Konstantin Yankauskas for 7 days, the Zelenogradsky District Court of Moscow arrested the comrade-in-arms of the liberal Alexei Navalny, the director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Ivan Zhdanov, for 15 days.

The Savelovsky court arrested the unregistered candidate for Moscow City Duma deputy Alexander Solovyov for 8 days, and ex-Deputy Minister of Energy Vladimir Milov received 30 days of arrest by decision of the Simonovsky Court of Moscow.

All of them are accused of violating Article 20.2.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. (Organization of mass simultaneous stay and (or) movement of citizens in public places, resulting in a violation of public order), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

In addition, according to Art. 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a government official), 48-year-old Evgeniy Kovalenko was arrested. It was he who threw a trash can towards a riot police officer during the protest. It is also known about another criminal case initiated against one of the protesters under the same article. The penalty for violating it is up to ten years in prison.

It also became known that a member of the “Libertarian Party” of Russia, Mikhail Svetov, was detained after negotiations with representatives of the Moscow mayor’s office about a new protest action, which representatives of this political force planned for August 3.

According to the famous Russian lawyer, member of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation for Human Rights Shota Gorgadze, the organizers of unauthorized actions - unregistered candidates for Moscow City Duma deputies - deliberately took the wrong path. They, according to the human rights activist, abandoned legitimate attempts to protect their interests and violated the law by calling on people to take to the streets.

“If a candidate does not agree with the decision of the election commission (as in the case of the Moscow City Duma), he can appeal it to the election commission of the subject of the Russian Federation. The candidate has the right to appeal the decision of the election commission of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation to the Central Election Commission. In parallel with this, the candidate has another effective tool: appealing to the court of a constituent entity of the Russian Federation (in this particular case, the Moscow City Court). In case of disagreement with the court decision, the candidate will appeal the judicial act to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. Now the question is: which of the following was done by those who called on their supporters to take to the streets, endangering the lives and health of people and exposing them to the danger of being prosecuted for illegal actions? What legal steps were taken by the dissenters to subsequently have the right to say that the only way out is the street and protest?

Alas, practically none. Every thinking person can draw his own conclusion. What was needed was not legal protection of one’s rights, but a reason for indignation, going out into the streets and provocations. Apparently the law does not fit into the concept of the “beautiful Russia of the future” of those who are ready to shed the blood of their fellow citizens for the sake of their ambitions. Unfortunately, we don’t have any other opposition for you,” Gorgadze notes in his blog.

At the same time, one of the main mouthpieces of the Moscow liberal crowd, Alexei Navalny, who was previously sentenced to 30 days of arrest, may be temporarily deprived of punishment for the period of treatment. The head of Moscow special detention center No. 1 made such a request to the court. Previously, he was admitted to the hospital with severe swelling of the face and redness of the skin.

And oppositionist, member of the Yabloko party Sergei Mitrokhin, after applying to the Moscow City Election Commission, may still receive registration. The working group of the election commission recommended reconsidering the refusal.

According to the head of the LDPR, State Duma deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the authorities still need to change the electoral legislation. However, he compared the actions of the non-systemic opposition with the actions of the Bolsheviks in the rear of warring Russia.

“We need to find a formula under which everyone can register parties, participate in elections, all candidates need to be registered. But what happened on Saturday in Moscow is the same thing that the Bolsheviks did in 1917. Confrontation between people and police, a threat to the state. People want democracy, but it is important not to cross the line when we harm ourselves,” Zhirinovsky said.
