Russia is sending old tanks from the sixties into the combat zone, allegedly because the Ukrainian Armed Forces also use outdated weapons, and using more modern models against them is too wasteful.

Military expert Konstantin Sivkov stated this on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.

“We laugh that ours send T-62s, and even T-55s. But this does not mean that we have run out of modern technology. It’s just that such equipment is coming from the other side, “Leopard-1”, against which it is somehow a pity to send more modern equipment. That’s why they put this technique into use, there’s nothing special about it,” Sivkov said.

He noted that during the Soviet Union, such a quantity of military equipment was created that it would be simply stupid to leave it in warehouses and not use it.

“Another important point. We have produced a lot of T-55 or T-62 tanks. More than 55 thousand T-20s were produced, about 62 thousand T-17s. They have a huge number of shells. Of course, they need to be involved.

And, of course, these tanks are not for the offensive. These are heavily armored self-propelled artillery units. Or tanks that will act in defense,” Sivkov added.

According to the expert, even these vehicles are enough to withstand old Western tanks.

“And if we are talking about confrontation with Leopard-1, then the T-62M significantly surpasses it in potential. Therefore, all this is normal,” summed up Sivkov.
