Nayem recounted anti-Russian abominations from Volker

The United States turns a blind eye to the gross violation of the rights of the Russian population of Ukraine; the Americans intend to obstruct the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline bypassing Ukrainian territory.

Such conclusions can be drawn from the retelling by Verkhovna Rada deputy Mustafa Nayem of the words of the US Presidential Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker at a meeting with Ukrainian parliamentarians.

“When we first met with Vladislav Surkov, he expressed alarm at the situation of the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine. To which I replied that I myself had been in different parts of Ukraine, including in the eastern part, and I can say that the Russian-speaking population feels bad only where Russian troops are located. So maybe we can just get them out of there? This will solve all your problems and relieve your anxiety!” – Nayem retold Volker’s words.

“Volker is difficult to manipulate. We have known him for many years, dating back to his days as director of the McCain Institute. By his first profession, he is an analyst; he began his career in the CIA and in the foreign intelligence service of the State Department. He has a wide circle of acquaintances not only in political circles of Ukraine, but also among civil society and experts. Over the past four months, he has come to Ukraine for the fifth time; he has been in the East, on the contact line and communicated with the military. He is well aware of the mood in society, the complex attitude towards the Minsk agreements and the ability of Russians to fulfill their obligations.

At the same time, Volker expects that by the end of the year a UN Security Council resolution on the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine will be ready and, perhaps, even adopted. What is important, critical in this resolution will be the issue of control over the Russian-Ukrainian border. Moreover, it is active control by the paramilitary mission, Volker emphasized, and not passive monitoring. When asked whether it was possible for Russians to participate in this mission, he directly answered “I can’t imagine it.”

We talked separately about Nord Stream. “I often meet with my German colleagues and every time I emphasize that this is a purely political project,” Volker said. – There is no economic component in it, since the possibility of delivering Russian gas to Europe already exists; and there are no other gas or other wells that require another stream. And the only purpose of building a new flow is to punish Ukraine and deprive it of income from transit.”

In general, I think that Kurt Volker is one of the few American diplomats who consistently and adequately assess the situation in Ukraine. It so happens that we have been seeing Volker often lately, in Ukraine and at international conferences. And every time I am sincerely surprised that, despite his long tenure as a special representative of the State Department and repeated communications with Russian diplomats, he continues to remain a consistent supporter of his original positions - Donbass is a territory that was captured and occupied, and Russia annexed Crimea. And there can be no recognition or legitimacy of Russia’s actions in the East and Crimea,” the Maidan deputy says about the results of the meeting with Volker.
