Opponents of the governor of the Irkutsk region Sergei Levchenko are trying to play on the flood disaster that happened in the region a few days ago and denigrate his work.
Deputy Director of the Institute for Innovative Development Dmitry Rodionov writes about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the political scientist, on the eve of the elections his opponents are fighting the communist governor, involving Moscow journalists.
As an example, Rodionov cites a video that shows the governor being pestered by an Izvestia journalist with questions, accusing him of not feeding flood victims at state expense.
The footage also recorded the responses of local residents, who contradict the journalist’s words, stating that they receive both food and humanitarian aid on time.
“Apparently, someone decided to take advantage of the tragedy in order to settle political scores with the regional governor Sergei Levchenko, accusing him of being to blame for what happened and not doing anything to eliminate the consequences. Read our pro-Kremlin media. There, the governor immediately remembers the scandalous hunt and the scandals with the “black lumberjacks.” It is with the consequences of illegal logging that the governor’s opponents associate the recent fires and the flood that replaced them. But these accusations are clearly not enough. It is necessary to show a “picture” that demonstrates in all its glory the inability of local authorities to cope with the consequences of the disaster.
And nosy journalists come from Moscow, whose task at any cost is to find some shortcomings in the work of local authorities to eliminate the consequences, to show people’s complaints in order to blame the governor personally for everything,” writes Rodionov and emphasizes that Sergei Levchenko is directly involved in liquidation of a large-scale flood without taking off the uniform of an Emergencies Ministry employee.
Another political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov notes that the persecution of Levchenko is beneficial to his opponents from United Russia, who do not shy away from profiting from human tragedies.
“A similar tragedy happened here, when the city of Lensk was washed away in 2001. What’s interesting is that at that time all branches of government acted harmoniously, no one tried to turn the disaster to their own benefit, for example, to lower the rating of the current governor, trying to shift the responsibility for the violence of the elements onto his shoulders.
And today such political PR is in the order of things. Surprisingly, the vultures from the paid media were the first to flock to the region and tried to peck at Sergei Levchenko. If such stars light up, then someone needs it, and in the Irkutsk region it is very clear who it is - United Russia, which lost the gubernatorial election in the last year,” Grashchenkov writes in his blog.
Let us remind you that as a result of heavy rains that led to flooding in the Irkutsk region, severe flooding occurred. A state of emergency was declared in six districts - Tulunsky, Chunsky, Nizhneudinsky, Taishetsky, Ziminsky and Kuitunsky. More than 2,5 thousand people were evacuated from the emergency zone. 18 were killed, and another 17 people are considered missing.
