On the eve of Dodon’s visit to Moscow, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry staged an anti-Russian demarche
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova published a scandalous statement regarding the holding of events of the Social Movement “Youth Army” in Transnistria.
The department called the event of the Operational Group of Russian Troops (OGRF) “provocative,” while recalling that the presence of Russian military personnel in Transnistria “is a violation of the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova and is incompatible with international law,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports "
“The actions of the OGRF are all the more reprehensible because they represent repeated attempts to involve minor children from the conflict zone in military activities,” the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry demanded the “complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops” and the transformation of the current peacekeeping operation on the Dniester into a multinational civilian mission under an international mandate.
The statement was published on the eve of the planned visit of Moldovan President Igor Dodon to Russia at the invitation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to attend the Victory Parade, which will take place on June 24. Also, a company of the Honor Guard of the National Army of Moldova will take part in the Victory Parade in Moscow.
In addition, Dodon hopes to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the possibility of providing Moldova with a Russian loan, as well as benefits for Moldovan exporters of agricultural products.
Obviously, against this background, the Foreign Ministry’s statement was perceived as an outright provocation.
Apparently that’s why, a day after publication, the news disappeared from the site. Representatives of the Foreign Ministry claim that this happened for technical reasons, and the position of the Foreign Ministry remains the same.
Moldovan political scientist Vitaly Andrievsky, who served the previous government, does not believe that the appearance of the scandalous statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was an accident. In his opinion, Igor Dodon is making a slow turn from East to West.
“He understands that it is possible to break with Russia only when there is confidence that the United States will say: this guy is ours, he needs to be helped, he needs to be supported. Therefore, while maintaining external loyalty to Russia, Dodon is trying to please the United States, to convince them that they can deal with him... He closed the topic of the “war” against NATO in Moldova. No one is running around demanding that the NATO office be removed from Chisinau. Promises to prevent joint exercises between the Moldovan army and the armies of NATO countries have been forgotten. Our military took part in exercises in Ukraine and went to exercises in the USA. The topic of federalization of Moldova is closed. Russia really wanted to push this idea, but the United States and the EU were unhappy with it,” Andrievsky wrote on his website.
