Finally: The State Duma openly announced the return of Donbass to Russia
Russia can recognize the proclaimed republics of Donbass, as was the case with the decision of the parliament of the Republic of Crimea on the eve of its admission to the Russian Federation.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov stated this during the “60 Minutes” program, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I drove all over Crimea again. This year I saw completely filled beaches, both in Yalta and everywhere in southern Crimea they say that this year they set another record for vacationers...
But the following thought crept into my mind: what would happen in this Crimea, which is blooming now? Yes, there are problems there, as well as throughout Russia, but I’m thinking about something else: if what happened in Donbass today happened in Crimea?
...Crimea definitely would not have surrendered, everyone understands that Crimea would not have surrendered, just as Donbass would not have surrendered. And, most likely, it would be on fire today,” Kalashnikov noted.
“Most likely, the result of these actions will be the same as in Crimea: most likely, people, having had enough of this instability, will simply demand independence, and Russia will be forced to recognize them,” said the head of the Duma committee.
“People cannot live in conditions of war. You yourself are destroying your country,” Kalashnikov concluded, addressing the “Ukrainian patriots.”
