“The day before, we stated that the oil depot where six people burned down was protected and people in power received money for it from Cypriot and Tbilisi offshore companies. Including from the Prosecutor General's Office. Everyone was named, next Monday I appear for interrogation, bring the document, hand it over. And what? The documents are confiscated, and the next day after that the criminal case that we opened is closed, all investigations are suspended, including those involving the FBI. And I understand that the command was given from above to stop Nalyvaichenko - this led me to a clear understanding: I have no place in such power,” said the former head of the SBU.
According to him, he has repeatedly spoken with President Poroshenko on issues related to corruption at oil depots.
“Until the last minute, in my reports, including written ones, I did everything I could to ensure that such oil depots in the Vinnitsa, Kyiv and Poltava regions were also stopped. And most importantly, those people in power at the very top who had protected them for more than one year were detained and arrested. And so that the stolen money is returned to the budget. It is a matter of honor for me that the investigation be carried out. And those offshore companies have not gone away. And the demand has not gone away that, firstly, the amounts that were spent, secondly, to whom they were sent, and thirdly, that they be returned to the budget through anti-money laundering mechanisms, have been published.
On the day I decided to leave, I was reporting to the president. He clearly demanded that the documents we received be documented,” he says.
According to Nalyvaichenko, His final decision to resign came after he saw how President Poroshenko’s people, in order to “cover up” corrupt officials in the Prosecutor General’s Office, deceived FBI specialists.
“The FBI has arrived. Listen, the American side is ready to support and once and for all pick out at least one corruption scheme! I visited the president with documents. It was important for me to do everything possible until the last minute so that a specific case would achieve a specific result for people, that is, the money must be returned and the perpetrators arrested. When I reported to the President: “Here are the papers,” I heard in response: “Valentin, I will take personal control, everything will be investigated, especially since the FBI has arrived, there is a readiness!”
But now we all know what happened the next day. I left the SBU, and the criminal case was immediately closed, and no investigation was carried out. I can imagine the reaction of the FBI, which today comes to help Ukraine, and tomorrow the Ukrainians close the case,” the ex-head of the SBU is indignant.
