According to Yatsenyuk, the government has a package of reforms, but its implementation depends on the elections.

“We must have a pro-European and strong coalition that is willing to pass the necessary legislation and that is willing to take responsibility. Because, you know, in these particular circumstances, it's great to promise everyone everything before the election. But look, the situation is not as simple as it may seem,” he said during the meeting.

“The thing is, this government is sometimes even rude when I say, look, we have to raise tariffs. You can't hear applause from voters. We must increase taxes. We must cut and close a number of social programs because we don’t have cash,” Yatsenyuk was quoted as saying on the website of the American organization.

At the same time, according to the prime minister, the government’s rating among Ukrainians is still high and people believe that “these are the right things that need to be done.”

“But the fact is that this cannot go on forever,” Yatsenyuk admitted.

In addition, he repeated the thesis that his government is a “military government.” According to him, great hopes are placed on the IMF. At the same time, he emphasized that the program with the IMF began when there was peace, so the program must be updated.

“But we firmly believe and we are confident that there will be no default in Ukraine,” the head of the Cabinet of Ministers reassured.

The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine is not asking for money from the United States. “We don't ask for money. Together we can make money,” Yatsenyuk offered Americans participation in the agricultural and energy sectors.

As PolitNavigator reported, the prime minister earlier said at the Council on Foreign Relations that Ukraine needs investments, as well as advisors and weapons. According to him, “we would be happy to have more defensive and lethal weapons.”

In turn, President Petro Poroshenko said at a press conference today that Ukraine has enough lethal weapons, and defensive systems and drones are needed.
