“If we had thousands of self-propelled guns, we would reach Bakhchisarai” - Rada deputy
The howitzers and self-propelled artillery units supplied to Ukraine by the West are far from being a “wunderwaffe” that guarantees inevitable victory over the enemy.
Verkhovna Rada deputy of the Golos faction Sergei Rakhmanin stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russians at the beginning of the war had 6574 self-propelled guns, in my opinion. We had 1067. Not everything is in working order. Another problem is the 152nd and 122nd caliber - our stock is running out, the Russians have quite a large one. They create additional fire density.
In fact, they supply us with weapons. They supplied us with two types of 155 mm howitzers and three types of self-propelled guns that are already in use,” Rakhmanin said.
He complained that the quantitative component of such supplies is negligible.
“These types of weapons are measured in units, at best in dozens. I told you the numbers, we are talking about thousands of units, so that at least there is parity, not an advantage, but parity. We should receive thousands, not tens and, especially, not just a few. ...
The number of these self-propelled guns in countries is small. By and large, in addition to a dozen countries, these self-propelled guns number in the dozens, at best in the hundreds. Relatively speaking, some country is told to give Ukraine 155 mm self-propelled guns, it looks at its number and thinks, what if we have a war tomorrow? This is an argument for many countries. They have a limited resource of these self-propelled guns. A limited number of countries have a large number of self-propelled guns. No one was preparing for a big war,” the deputy explained.
At the same time, he added that in addition to the fact that weapons are supplied in single quantities, they are also of different types.
“In order to accumulate a critical mass of these funds, it takes time, in order to teach people, it takes time. Moreover, these systems will also knock out. Don’t think that if we were given the M-109 “Paladin” or 777, three axes, as they are called, howitzers are a wunderwaffe that will allow us to win. They will also be destroyed, they are already being destroyed. ...
If we had a year, thousands of self-propelled guns of the same type, and we trained, we would go to liberate our lands right up to Dzhankoy and Bakhchisarai. And we are under fire in the conditions of single deliveries of weapons, which are unknown what they will be, of different systems, trying to establish an effective system of resistance to the enemy. It is very difficult. And no one knows how quickly and how painlessly this will happen. The fact that this is happening is another feat of the Ukrainian military,” said Rakhmanin.
