“We need a big Russia!” – The fifth anniversary of the proclamation of the DPR is celebrated in Donetsk
A solemn meeting was held in the center of Donetsk dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the adoption of a historical document - the Declaration of State Independence of the Donetsk People's Republic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About 10 thousand citizens, many of whom came with their entire families, gathered in the square in front of the Government House, where on April 6, 2014, after the storming of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, protesters did not leave the building and in one night erected barricades of tires and barbed wire, and the very next day it was The official creation of the Republic was announced, after which the first decision of the People's Council was made - to hold a referendum on self-determination, which took place on May 11, 2014.

“Five years have passed since the Donetsk People’s Republic was proclaimed. Five years is both a lot and a little. During this time, children in the Republic have grown up; they are already five years old, and they are already established personalities. It’s hard to even imagine how many events our state has had, there were a lot of good things, but there were very difficult and sad stages. Today we have gathered to remember that it was on the same day, when we came to the rally once again, that we realized that we could not do anything differently. We came exactly to this building, occupied this building, and entering it, each of our like-minded people understood that there was no turning back.
The Donetsk People's Republic exists, you and I exist, nothing has changed between us. What we proclaimed while standing at rallies, and standing in this very place, we continue to move towards this.
We need a bigger Russia, we need a return to our homeland. Very often at rallies they heard: “Crimea, Donbass, Russia, referendum.” Our journey is longer, but we are going. You and I will succeed,” the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, addressed the audience.
