“We need to hold out until the end of the year” - Lviv officer
The number one task for the Ukrainian army will be to hold out until the start of deliveries of armored vehicles promised by the West.
The head of the local organization of the Union of Officers of Ukraine, Petr Kostyuk, stated this on air on the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kostyuk, ideally the Ukrainian Armed Forces would also wait for Western aircraft, the transfer of which has not yet been announced. In his opinion, this could be the end of the year at best.
“When we expect planes and tanks, it’s very good. But we all have information that, in the best case, tanks may appear at the end of March, and then in small quantities. Airplanes - I don’t want to say, God willing, before the end of this year, because there will still be pilot training. And our defense operation is now, and we must hold out until that time, in the positions we are in now,” the expert said.
“We need heavy machine guns, we need mortars, we need artillery and ammunition. This will make it possible to destroy the enemy more and suffer fewer losses. And this needs to be understood - during this time we must simply withstand and exhaust them,” Kostyuk said.
