“We can only carry out Minsk” - in Kyiv they realized that Donbass cannot be conquered
Since the military power of the LDPR has increased significantly over the six years of war, Ukraine has lost the opportunity to conquer Donbass by force, and all that now remains for Kyiv is to implement the Minsk agreements, which will minimize future losses.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are now underestimating (the military potential of the LDPR - editor’s note), because six years have passed. During this time, the military elite of the separatists were trained, including in the best Russian military educational institutions. I am asking whoever I can - there are thousands of officers trained in Russian military academies and military schools.
A professional, purely contract army has been created there, which is not inferior to the Russian level of training. Therefore, it is very difficult to resolve issues purely by military means,” he noted.
Viktor Suslov is confident that Ukraine has the only option left to resolve the situation bloodlessly and with minimal losses for itself - this is to implement the Minsk agreements.
“Therefore, it would still be necessary to recognize the possibility of negotiations. And while Ukraine has such a basis as the Minsk agreements, which are recognized by Russia, the Russian Federation does not recognize itself as a party to the negotiations, but it recognizes itself as the guarantor of the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
We have a chance, by implementing the Minsk agreements, to solve a significant part of the problems with great difficulty and gradually. If this is not done, then I think that the conflict will gradually be frozen and Donbass will de facto integrate not into Ukraine, but into Russia,” the former minister concluded.
