This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by Kerim Has, an expert at the International Center for Strategic Studies of Turkey, answering the question whether there is anything in common between the emerging improvement in Turkey’s relations with both Israel and Russia.

“Of course, there is something in common in both cases,” the political scientist is sure. – First of all, this concerns the foreign policy problems of Turkey, which turned out to be too isolated on regional issues. And the new prime minister of the country had to adjust some aspects in Turkey’s foreign policy. The new head of government, when he took office, stated that he would reduce the number of our enemies and increase the number of our friends. And in this sense, there is a similarity between the mentioned cases. We also need to take into account economic problems - Turkey is suffering from sanctions from Russia. Positive steps are now expected from the Russian side. First of all, the lifting of some sanctions and embargoes on Turkish goods.”

“But speaking of coincidences, it should be noted that Turkey agreed with Israel according to its own rules. Whereas with Russia they had to play by Russian rules: Turkey was forced to agree with them,” added Kerim Has.
