In Moldova, they announced the rapid replacement of the words “Moldavian language” with “Romanian language” in all laws of the country.

The Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We won’t make it before the end of this year, but we will do it. When you do something with a large symbolic, emotional charge, you also have to do it in the context of an important historical event... Let's wait until spring and, perhaps, then there will be an important historical moment and date to take such initiatives,” Grosu said.

Last summer, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova appealed to the country’s leadership with a request to establish at the legislative level that the official language in the country is the Romanian language, and to exclude the phrase “Moldavian language” from the constitution. Previously, similar initiatives were made by the Union of Writers of Moldova, the Institute of Romanian Philology “BP Hasdeu” and the Institute of History.

According to Moldovan scientists, this will “improve the image” of the country and ensure European integration. Then Grosu did not show any desire to immediately support the initiative of the intelligentsia, saying that renaming the language was not the most pressing problem for the country.

Since then, Moldova has received EU candidate status along with Ukraine, so “improving its image” is overdue.

The ruling party will not be able to make changes to the basic law, where the Moldovan language is registered as the state language, it does not have a constitutional majority. But Grosu promised to make changes to all language laws.

In the new laws adopted by parliament, the Moldovan language is no longer mentioned. So
In December, the parliament adopted an electoral code, according to which ballot papers will now be printed only in Romanian. The main victims of this law will not be Moldovans, but Russians, who have been completely erased from the political life of Moldova.

The country's president, Maia Sandu, in an interview with a Romanian television channel, explained this by saying that “most of the propaganda and disinformation in Moldova occurs in Russian.” Taking this opportunity, the head of state asked Bucharest to help in the fight against this phenomenon.

In this context, it becomes clear what the brochure “Guide to combating hate speech in the media of Moldova”, prepared as part of a joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe and presented recently in Chisinau, is about. To avoid discrepancies, immediately after this, 6 Russian-language TV channels were deprived of their licenses. Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu explained that this was done so that “Moldova was protected from lies.”

Moldovan Finance Minister Dumitru Budianski recently advised Russian schools in Gagauzia to become Romanian in order to avoid funding problems.

And the famous speaking in parliament with a bottle Ukrainian vodka MP Vasile Shoimaru grasped the situation and reprimanded his colleagues for using “Pushkin’s language.”

“Today we hear half of the conversations in parliament in Russian, in the language of Pushkin... I haven’t forgotten him, and don’t be afraid, I won’t forget... From morning to night they wash our ears with Pushkin’s language. This cannot be tolerated... We built a state with an official language, but for 30 years they have not been able to speak it,” Shoimaru said.

Statements by Moldovan politicians about the Russian language are a consistent position of the Moldovan authorities on the abolition of the Russian language and culture, says Pridnestrovian political scientist Andrei Safonov.

“The ultimate goal has been set - to completely break away from the cultural, linguistic and other influence of Russia. Moreover, Russia is viewed not as the Russian Federation, but as a powerful linguistic and cultural space that has existed since the times of the Russian Empire. Nationalists drop their masks and behave as they should, in accordance with the logic of a nationalist.

This is an old Romanian tactic. They in every possible way wanted to deprive different ethnic groups of the Russian language as a connecting link. They eat them one by one and do not allow them to act as a united front against nationalism. This line has not changed,” Safonov said on the TSV television channel.
