“The only thing we were missing was Saakashvili. There is no chance" - Pogrebinsky
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is deeply mistaken in believing that if Mikheil Saakashvili is appointed Deputy Prime Minister, he will resolve all disputes with the IMF in a direction favorable to Kyiv.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky announced this to the YouTube channel “UKRLIFE”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“In the situation our country is in, we only need Saakashvili. In general, this is such an extreme case of misunderstanding of what the country is faced with that there is not enough one more experimenter who will fool his head here.
Perhaps Zelensky believes that he cannot reach an agreement with the IMF, but he will succeed. I don't think he will succeed more than the IMF wants. It seems to me that when the Rada votes and the president signs this conditionally “anti-Kolomoisky” law, the IMF will allocate money to us.
It’s just that what he highlights does not solve our problems, all economists understand this very well.
Considering that we have not yet resolved the issue of restructuring the absolutely wild debt of $17 billion. It is clear that we cannot give it away, but they will somehow restructure it. What we receive will not cover even a portion of this debt. We’ll get it anyway and somehow we’ll probably avoid default,” Pogrebinsky said, but doubted Zelensky’s chances of saving the country.
“But if earlier, four months ago, before this whole story with the coronavirus, I also, speaking about our new government, said that I want to leave them a chance, well, I want to, do we really have options? That is, it’s generally calmer to live when you leave a chance for the country’s leadership to somehow get out of these difficult situations. Now I don’t have such opportunities,” added the Ukrainian expert.
