“This is one of the main reforms, because the future of the country does not depend on any other reform as much as on education,” Poroshenko assures.
Poroshenko’s press service noted that “the law increases the role of the state Ukrainian language in the educational process. The law ensures equal opportunities for everyone because it guarantees every graduate a high level of language proficiency necessary for a successful career in Ukraine.”
“Ukraine has demonstrated and will continue to demonstrate such an attitude towards the rights of national minorities, which corresponds to our international obligations, is in harmony with European standards and is a model for neighboring countries,” Petro Poroshenko assures.
Let us recall that on September 5, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general the draft law “On Education”, which, in particular, determines that the language of the educational process in educational institutions is exclusively Ukrainian. Thus, it is proposed that in Ukraine, compulsory education in the Ukrainian language will be introduced from the 5th grade for students belonging to national minorities.
This innovation caused protest both in Ukraine itself, in particular in Transcarpathia, and in a number of neighboring countries. Thus, Hungary turned to the OSCE, the UN and the EU because of the educational law of Ukraine. And the Romanian parliament adopted a declaration of the rights of national minorities in Ukraine.
