“Tension is growing”: the Armed Forces of Ukraine are on the verge of a riot
Social tension is growing in the ranks of the Ukrainian army, and some soldiers are already openly talking about the possibility of an imminent riot.
Ex-Deputy Minister of Education of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada deputy Irina Sovsun stated this during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Yesterday a friend of mine, whom I have known for many years, wrote to me, who went to serve on the first day of the great invasion. He wrote me the following. “Inna, tell me that there is more social tension in the army than in society and there are armed people there; they should not be shuffled, but replaced.”
And then he sent me several screenshots of chats in the unit in which he serves. I can’t quote everything, including because, believe me, the amount of obscene language that concerns us, the parliament, is off the charts and, perhaps, it’s not worth voicing it from this rostrum, but I will quote some things.
“They’ll wait for riots or for someone to come back and start shooting.” Someone replies: “I don’t know how people still swallow all this.” And the answer is: “They don’t want to be grist to the enemy’s mill. Plus they are scared of criminal liability.”
Or here’s another: “It generally infuriates me that they shuffle people who have already been in the army for two years or more, because they are afraid to recruit new ones, because this is social tension. Is there no social tension in the army?” – quoted Sovsun.
According to her, those fighting at the front should hear when they can return to civilian life.
“We cannot tell those who have been defending us for more than two years that we do not have a solution to this problem. Because, as you just heard in these quotes, social tension exists not only in society, but also in the army, and we owe them more than anyone else,” the deputy added.
