Frightened by Sternenko’s verdict, Maidan activists are waiting for total repressions
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, whose steps Russophobes recently admired, has again disappointed these circles.
An article on this topic, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent, was published by the Ukrainian Week magazine.
“Vladimir Zelensky shocked the country with unexpected belligerence against certain Kremlin agents and instantly gained fame as the savior of Ukraine and the most uncompromising patriot. However, in hybrid times, you should not take everything at face value and draw hasty conclusions. This tendency at least threatens constant disappointment. Some of the president’s recent steps are indeed pleasantly surprising, but there are also plenty of danger signals against them,” the article notes.
The author of the material considers the sentence (seven years in prison) of the Primorsky Court of Odessa to the right-wing radical killer Sergei Sternenko to be such a signal. The publication claims that Sternenko’s case is “politicized and is a clear manifestation of revenge,” and that putting him in prison allegedly “was a matter of principle for the numerous pro-Moscow “cottage wool.”
“Sternenko may become a sacred sacrifice, which will be made to please those who see in the imprisonment of the Odessa activist not just personal reprisal, but the beginning of repression against the Maidan protesters, who, according to the pro-Russian forces, “committed a coup d’etat,” the publication fears.
The magazine also concludes that “revenge through the courts is becoming too noticeable.”
