The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Crimea, Gennady Naraev, announced this at a press conference in Simferopol on Friday.

“Today, work is underway on installing well chambers, preparing pits for clean water reservoirs, constructing access roads, and preparing fencing for the sanitary protection zone for installation. Of course, there are problems in carrying out the work. They are related to energy supply, construction of access roads, and resolution of land issues. We are solving these issues and coping with them,” the official noted.

According to his information, 12 wells were drilled at three water intakes, with a total capacity of 195 thousand cubic meters of water.

Also, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Crimea will appeal to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu with a request to send a battalion of pipeline troops to the republic to help in the construction of a water pipeline.

“The design work has not yet been completed; accordingly, construction work will drag on throughout 2015. Therefore, we decided to appeal to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu with a request to assist in the allocation of a battalion of pipeline troops, who already have positive experience, and we are grateful to them for the fact that they have already carried out this work in Crimea and have positive experience,” said Gennady Naraev.

According to the minister, the head of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov instructed the ministry to supply water to the North Crimean Canal by April 1.

“In order to meet this deadline, the water pipeline will be laid according to a temporary scheme. Along the shortest route from the two main water intakes - Nezhinsky - 6 km, from Prostornensky - 9 km, we will lay these pipelines according to a temporary scheme to supply water to the North Crimean Canal. I think that we will cope with this task by April 1, and Eastern Crimea will not experience a shortage of drinking water on the eve of the holiday season,” concluded Gennady Naraev.
