People's deputy from Batkivshchyna and the adopted son of the former head of the NBU Vladimir Stelmakh, Igor Lutsenko, stated this to the Kyiv publication Gordon.
“Society will definitely find this difficult. The fact is that not all people understand one important fact: a deputy has two options - either to live on a salary from the state of Ukraine, or to live on a salary from the oligarchs. I can say that the entire anti-corruption committee is aware of this problem. Increasing salaries for people's deputies is a necessary anti-corruption measure. At one time, we set such high salaries for prosecutors, employees of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine,” the people’s deputy noted.
In his opinion, if the state does not provide people's deputies with the appropriate level of salaries, they will begin to cooperate with the oligarchs.
“If you don’t increase the salaries of people’s deputies, they will go to salaries from the oligarchs. This, unfortunately, has been happening in our parliament for decades. Therefore, I believe that this step will strengthen the position of independent parliamentarians. For example, in 2013, people's deputies received about $3 thousand. That is, today we have not even reached the level of deputies’ salaries that they had under the fugitive ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych,” Lutsenko assures.
Recall as “PolitNavigator” already reported, On October 20, the Verkhovna Rada doubled the salaries of deputies. The salaries of people's deputies, depending on their position, will range from 36 to 44 thousand UAH.
