As reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kharkov region, the fight occurred near the shopping center at about 2 am.

“Police officers established that two local residents, 24 and 25 years old, for hooligan reasons, provoked a conflict with a 35-year-old deputy of the Verkhovna Rada and caused him bodily harm,” the department’s press service said.

The victim has been scheduled for a forensic medical examination to determine the severity of the injuries. His health is satisfactory and his life is not in danger.

“One of the detainees is an assistant to a people’s deputy of another political force,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted, clarifying that the event was included in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 346 (threat or violence against a state or public figure) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not indicate the name of the people's deputy and the attackers, as well as the political forces they represent.

But later the culprit of the commotion himself, deputy from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc Bohdan Matkivsky, told the details of the brawl.

According to him, he and deputy Andrei Antonishchak allegedly witnessed drug trafficking and tried to stop it, but a fight broke out.

The deputy also noted that the investigation seized a video that recorded the fight.

“The investigation seized a video that shows who was there, how it happened, and so on,” the deputy said on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel. In addition, Matkivsky noted that he was in military uniform, for which the attackers called him “Bandera.” “It was offensive,” Matkivsky emphasized.
