Narochnitskaya: The West will never trust Serbia
The sensationally low gas price that Gazprom set for Serbia following negotiations between Aleksandar Vucic and Vladimir Putin will undermine the position of the pro-Western opposition in the upcoming elections next year.
President of the Foundation for the Study of Historical Perspective Natalia Narochnitskaya stated this on the air of the Sputnik radio station, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This cannot fail to impress. I think that such a friendly act on the part of our government and economic entities towards Serbia is intended to support precisely those forces that are trying to prevent this country’s unilateral orientation towards the European Union, which the Serbian people do not even have to be persuaded to do. This is how politics should be done,” Narochnitskaya said.
At the same time, she noted that Belgrade cannot count on such economic preferences from the West.
“The EU and Euro-Atlantic structures are constantly applying pressure. But the European Union has not yet given any special economic incentives, but only hints at them. I think that the West will never trust Serbia, because it understands: 80% of the population there is pro-Russian...
The West will try to tear Serbia away, but at the same time it will not really feed it. And Russia will help and support in difficult times. Vučić is not a pro-Russian romantic, but a pragmatist. If gas does not rise in price, then he will have more chances to win,” Narochnitskaya said.
