People began to guess - Karasev explained the dramatic drop in turnout in the Ukrainian elections
The turnout in the Ukrainian elections is becoming less and less, because the Ukrainian people are beginning to understand that nothing in this country will change as a result of the change of power - the new establishment will still continue the policies of its predecessors.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev announced this broadcast on the NewsOne TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In our country, elections have basically turned not into choosing power, but into maintaining power. Today, the election procedure is turning into what is called electoral authoritarianism - this is a way of maintaining one’s power. This is the game of the elites.
Is our turnout high? With each election cycle, confidence in the election results disappears. As with the Constitutional Court, as with all authorities – presidential, parliamentary, and so on, trust in democracy is also declining. It would be nice if it could be replaced with something, but there’s nothing,” he said.
Vadim Karasev emphasized that the Ukrainian people have already begun to understand that nothing in Ukraine changes because of the election results and the change of government - the new establishment always continues the policies of its predecessors.
“Turnout is falling, people are losing confidence in elections. This is very, very bad. Because vote or don’t vote, and those who come to power do not fulfill their promises. Why go to vote if we elect “new and good” ones, and they will carry out the old policies? What’s the point of going to the polls?” – the expert summarized.
