Slavyansk, May 22 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) - “People’s Mayor” of Slavyansk Vyacheslav Ponomarev denied information about his detention by his own associates, holding a press conference for journalists.

“Information appeared in the media that I was allegedly arrested, detained for my connections with criminals, or... I will once again refute the false statements of our ideological opponents. It's not like that at all. I am a normal, law-abiding citizen, which I have remained my entire adult life. I have never broken the law, I mean the Criminal Code. So all statements on this matter are absolutely baseless,” Ponomarev said.
"Tie me and Robert (The body of Robert Meloyan, who was associated with the criminal world, was found in the river. His connections with the rebels were assessed differently: from support to rejection - approx. ed.), who was killed, is also absolutely bad. Because our city is small, I warned you. We know everything about each other and live in peace and harmony for many years. It is regrettable that our peaceful people are still dying, especially since they treated Robert so treacherously. This is very, very ugly and not good. I think over time we will find people, not even people - degenerates, who committed this crime and, naturally, we will punish them as they deserve.
Let us remind you that today information appeared in the media that the Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov gave the order to detain Ponomarev. Among the reasons were the latter’s criticism of the DPR government, as well as a conflict of interest, including with the participation of Robert Meloyan.
