“In general, the city is ready to repel an attack. I think in the coming days we will see what steps the opposing side, that is, the so-called Ukrainian army, will take. The fact that civilian, peaceful, densely populated areas are being shelled, additional statements and appeals... maybe they will have an effect... and it’s enough that we cover it. I am glad that the attention of the world community has been attracted. Just the day before yesterday there was a rally in Italy, an anti-fascist rally. In Germany, rallies are regularly held in support of Slavyansk,” Ponomarev said.
“In principle, this is not bad, but it would be very good if the Ukrainian army suffered, once again, a major defeat in the coming days. I think we’ll hear soon,” said the “people’s mayor.”
“The Ukrainian media make big news stories that are not the truth. Namely. They take credit for the fact that they take children out of here, that we allegedly hide behind them. There will be a request: the departure of children is carried out from here - from the executive committee, so that you talk with local residents, highlight the reality of who is doing this. This is done by the administration, the executive committee of the city of Slavyansk. All services are working, social protection. Everyone is being taken away, both children and families,” Ponomarev said.
According to him, as of June 1, 7 thousand children remained in Slavyansk, and in general up to 40% of the population left the city, mostly elderly people who did not want to leave their homes remained. Most of the citizens leaving the city are young people and children.
As Navigator reported, a scandal erupted earlier regarding the sending of children from Slavyansk to Artek. First, they were “lost” by the Ukrainian military, who could not determine how the buses with children passed them, then the militias said that the security forces were shooting at the buses.
