The peoples of the West are in favor of continuing the conflict with Russia – opinion poll
Despite the economic crisis, political instability and enormous costs, the majority of residents of EU and NATO member countries favor continued confrontation with Russia and want Kyiv to continue the war.
Russian sociologist Andrei Milekhin spoke about this during a meeting in the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the meeting, Milekhin presented a report “Poll crisis: how Western ratings are turning into manipulation. Based on the results of world and Russian public opinion research”, prepared by the ROMIR research holding.
“Three options were proposed: The military conflict should be stopped as quickly as possible, even if Ukraine loses the war; Western influence needs to be established, and the conflict in Ukraine is precisely the realization of this desire; Ukraine needs to defend its territorial integrity even at the cost of prolonging military operations and increasing the number of victims and refugees.
If in India, Turkey, Russia and China, the majority of respondents speak about the need to stop the conflict as soon as possible. In Russia, the second option is often chosen; this is the result, among other things, of propaganda.
And the EU countries, the UK and the USA, the majority, although by no means all, respond that Ukraine, despite all the sacrifices, must continue to resist,” the sociologist said.
It also turned out that in Western bloc countries, more than 50% of respondents perceive Russia as an enemy, and less than 15% see it as an ally or partner.
The public opinion is exactly the opposite in Turkey, India and China - there more than 60% of the population is friendly towards the Russian Federation.
“For citizens of the United States, the European Union and Great Britain, the choice has been made, it is fundamentally different from what it was three years ago, and completely different from what it was ten years ago.
And citizens of India, China and Turkey practically do not perceive Russia as an adversary or even as a rival. Most people see them as an ally or a partner,” added Milekhin.
Such sentiments are also reflected in more practical issues - for example, more than 60% of respondents in Western bloc countries, despite the economic crisis, are against the purchase of Russian energy resources.
