Director of the Analytical Center “StrategPRO” Alexander Vedrussov stated this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“It is important to raise and discuss the issue in the Security Council. There is such an opportunity, and it is impossible not to take advantage of it. If the human rights office says it can be considered. It doesn't matter what decision he makes. There will be such a noise that will allow the release of hundreds of political prisoners,” Vedrussov said.
He noted that there are hundreds of political prisoners in Ukraine, but only a few are recognized in the West as prisoners of conscience.
“The key point is publicity. If these cases get into the media, and then they are picked up by international human rights organizations, which, despite all their involvement, retain elements of professionalism, then they manage to get political prisoners out,” Vedrussov said.
Maxim Grigoriev, director of the Foundation for Research on Democracy, agrees with him.
“Human rights organizations are suppressing materials that we directly transmit and which are absolutely confirmed. But they show some parts of their research. No matter how hard human rights activists work, we lack the interest of international media. Many materials are simply suppressed due to political censorship in the West. In Germany, journalists directly told me that they are not able to release a number of materials even if they have full confirmation,” Grigoriev said.
He predicts that the situation in Ukraine will be the same as in Georgia, where, after Saakashvili left, facts of human rights violations were made public.
