“They are taking us in pincers.” Zelensky is advised to urgently negotiate with Putin
The presence of Russian bases in Syria means that soon a new gas pipeline will stretch from there to Europe, and then, taking into account Nord Stream 2, Ukraine will have a very bad time.
Political expert Alexey Kalinichenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russian Federation is acting very competently, unlike our “offenders,” because Russia has set up its base there [in Syria], one and two. Why did Russian bases appear there? But because at one time the Americans wanted to build a gas pipeline from the Middle East together with their Arab friends through Syrian territory to Europe. To date, this attempt has been blocked by Russia, because in this case the Russian Gazprom would lose its leading position in Europe,” Kalinichenko said.
“As for Ukraine in this whole scheme, it was not for nothing that I mentioned Syria. Because the presence of Russia there already implies that a new gas pipeline will stretch from there, but with the participation of the Russian side. This must be taken into account. In this context we are in pincers. To go further and swear, argue and resist this power, I think, is a futile endeavor. Compromises must be sought.
Zelensky needs to go to Moscow, meet with Putin and talk about the possibility of interaction specifically in the gas sector. At one time, this topic was raised - a gas consortium, it was possible to make good money on this topic, but without swearing. Europe would be happy to use Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. We have very high potential, even despite the fact that they say that we have rusty pipes and so on,” the expert said.
“I don’t know how Zelensky came to Moscow, he said that it could be in a place of conflict, he also invited Putin to Donbass, or on neutral territory. He said that communication was underway between the office of the President of Ukraine and Russia,” the conference moderator recalled.
“We have to be smarter. Start with gas issues and then move on to Donbass, wherever you want,” Kalinichenko advised.
