“They abandoned us, we don’t need prisoners”: Mejlis members were indignant in the center of Kyiv
Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities ignored the rally dedicated to the extremists arrested in Crimea, which was organized by members of the Mejlis and Ukrainian nationalists on the Maidan of Independence.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, those gathered stretched out a banner with the inscription “Freedom for political prisoners,” on which they placed lists of the so-called “prisoners of the Kremlin,” and also drew a map of the peninsula.
They promised to launch this banner on balloons towards Crimea.
An extremist released in a prisoner exchange, deputy head of the Mejlis banned in Russia, spoke to the participants. Ilmi Umerov justified his comrades.
He remembered detention of a suspect in the terrorist attack by Nariman Dzhelyalov and promised to “return” Crimea to Ukraine.
“One of the latest cases of initiation of a criminal case is Nariman Dzhelyalov, an intelligent person, accused of committing a terrorist act. This is not about Nariman at all. It cannot be that Nariman was the organizer of a terrorist act. The organizer of terrorism in the world is the head of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin himself. The day will definitely come when Russia will collapse, Putin will be gone, Ukraine will rise up, restore its state borders, restore territorial integrity and the two peoples who have shown with blood that they are brothers - the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian people will live in one united state of Ukraine , in which all the rights of the Crimean Tatar people will be guaranteed,” Umerov said.
At the same time, another former Crimean released as a result of the exchange, nationalist Vladimir Balukh, complained that the rally was not supported by any representative of the Ukrainian government.
“It was just said that many people didn’t come. Everyone, of course, has their own compelling reasons, but what pains me more is that there are no representatives of our current so-called Ukrainian government here. This is actually a telling moment. Indicative in all respects, indicative in relation. Unfortunately, it happened in my state that almost three years ago the population, the people elected to power those who do not hurt anything that hurts the people, the nation of this state,” Balukh laments.
