“We are being killed economically!” – picket of the Poroshenko administration (PHOTO, VIDEO)
Kyiv, January 26 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – On Monday, the public organization “Credit Maidan” held a protest rally at the administration of the President of Ukraine in the center of Kyiv.
Activists are outraged, in particular, by Poroshenko’s recent veto on the law on a moratorium on the alienation of property for foreign currency loans. Loans taken in foreign currency cannot be repaid given the current exchange rate of the hryvnia and the current state of the economy, the protesters say.

“Why is the moratorium vetoed? The President promised to protect us, and yet he does so. The veto must be revoked immediately. This is a conspiracy,” said one of the protesters.
According to him, after the veto was adopted, banks began new lawsuits against foreign currency debtors, people were being evicted from their apartments.
Borrowers even pay interest on loans in relation to foreign currency, although by law interest can only be accrued in hryvnia.
During the action, borrowers also wove camouflage nets, which were later to be handed over to the military. “We are defending our rights and at the same time helping the army,” said one of the activists, a single mother who is unable to repay the loan due to the changed exchange rate. “We want to remind you that now people are dying not only physically, but also economically. Banks and collectors are putting people out on the street and taking away their last home.”
The action was timed to coincide with mourning for those killed in Mariupal, Donetsk and Volnovakha, as a sign of which some of its participants wore posters “I am Ukraine” and “Je suis Ukraine”.
