The population of Crimea is consolidated and does not support the aspirations of Ukrainian “hawks”
The provocations of the Majlis extremists, aimed at inciting ethnic hatred and chaos in Crimea, will not lead to the result expected by the extremists.
Political scientist Ivan Mezyukho stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
This is how he commented on today’s information from the FSB about the exposure of an extremist group organized by an assistant to a Verkhovna Rada deputy, former head of the Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation, Mustafa Dzhemilev, and supported by the SBU.
“I think their goal was to create an ethnic conflict in Crimea, to disrupt the socio-political stability established in the region after the reunification of the peninsula with the Russian Federation, but these attempts are in vain. Firstly, because law enforcement agencies in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol work at a highly professional level, and secondly, Crimean society is so consolidated that it will not fall for this kind of provocation, interethnic conflict is excluded here,” the expert said.
“We have seen positive changes in interethnic and interfaith politics in the region over the past four years. Now no one divides Crimeans into national apartments; residents of the peninsula celebrate holidays and tragic memorable dates together, like one big family. Therefore, all these provocations of the banned Majlis aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation in Crimea are futile and have no prospects for their organizers,” Mezyukho said.
