The population of Mariupol has decreased by a third: Factories are being cut down for scrap metal
Ukrainian propaganda launched a thesis about improving the environmental situation in the territories of Donbass controlled by Kiev, but using the example of Mariupol one can see that reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere is achieved only by stopping industrial enterprises in the context of the economic crisis in Ukraine.
Deputy of the People's Council of the DPR Alexey Kurenkov stated this on the air of the Union TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It’s very difficult to comment on lies... is it easier for them to breathe because they began to close operating enterprises? The current Azovstal plant operates at 50% of capacity, Azovmash was simply swept clean - nothing is produced there, and the Ilyich plant is simply cut into scrap metal, and ships with this scrap go to the Philippines and Malaysia. Moreover, the population of Mariupol has decreased by more than a third, simply because people do not have a means of subsistence and are therefore forced to leave,” the deputy said.
His words were confirmed by Sergei Kolesnikov, head of the department for organizing supervisory activities in the field of civil defense: “In 2016, in Ukraine as a whole, 2,3 million tons of harmful substances were released into the air. And 12% of this volume is provided by two plants that are located in Mariupol - Azovstal and Ilyich. This same system caused 19 emergency failures in just one month - May...”, the specialist said.
