A representative of the leadership of the Black Sea Cossacks, Ivan Kolev, told NG that people are fleeing the region: “Recently, 320 thousand people have left. Families are leaving. 14 thousand apartments, mainly in Tiraspol, remained empty. In five years, Moldova may simply occupy the territory of our republic; there will be no one to resist.” Kolev noted that the Black Sea Cossacks discussed this issue and came to the conclusion that “Transnistria is being surrendered, and today there is a creeping occupation of the region.” Kolev blames the incident on “the dual policy of Moscow, which promised to protect its citizens in Transnistria, but at the same time is trying to flirt with Moldova.”
Let us remind you that on May 18, a decree of the Ukrainian government came into force on the exclusion of checkpoints (checkpoints) in the villages of Kuchurgan and Platonovo, Odessa region, from the list of those through which excisable goods can be moved. Thus, economic agents of Transnistria were deprived of the right to move such goods through the Transnistrian section of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, which is not controlled by Chisinau. According to the region's customs authorities, the restrictions will affect approximately 70 Transnistrian enterprises, which should review supply routes and import them through the Republic of Moldova, reports the Moldovan agency Infotag. Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee of Transnistria Svetlana Klimenkova expressed concern that “budget losses from lost customs payments in 2015 will exceed $20 million.”
President of Transnistria Yevgeny Shevchuk recently noted in Moscow that Ukraine “began to reconsider its attitude towards Transnistria” more than a year ago. “We assess this as an attempt to put pressure not so much on Pridnestrovie, but on Russia, taking into account the fact that about 200 thousand Russian citizens live here. Transport infrastructure is blocked. Our cargo passes almost exclusively through Moldova. The Ukrainian side has closed a number of customs points for the transport of excisable goods, which has hit the Pridnestrovian budget,” he complained. Actions to reduce the economic potential of the region are also being taken by Moldova.
