The US population is gripped by coronavirus panic
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities are recording an alarming trend: Americans, frightened by the spread of infection, are afraid to go to the doctor for fear of getting infected, which increases mortality at home.
Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes about this, citing the conclusions of the authorities of a number of states based on the results of studying the statistics of calls to a single emergency number 911.
“So, in the state of Tennessee, the number of calls to emergency medical service dispatchers fell by 20 percent, and in Florida - by 50 percent. The situation is similar in New York and San Francisco. As local emergency medicine experts note, Americans are very frightened by the possibility of contracting the virus from doctors,” the publication notes.
American media indicate that data from two counties in Florida show that last month people were found dead in homes twice as often as a year ago.
“The fact is that in those who remain at home, the coronavirus sometimes progresses rapidly, which leads to death. At the same time, there is a sharp increase in calls to 911 due to overdoses of drugs that Americans use to prevent and combat coronavirus infection. Another sign of the fear that has gripped the US population is the mass refusal to visit medical institutions. Moreover, both patients suffering from chronic diseases and parents, who began to bring their children to specialized hospitals less often, began to postpone visits to hospitals,” the publication writes.
As PolitNavigator reported, a scientist from the USA felt ashamed for American medicine.
