Ukraine's population decreased by 20 million - Kiev economist
The population of Ukraine continues to decline and currently no longer exceeds 32-33 million people.
Kiev economist Maxim Goldarb stated this in his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Several years ago, when Dubilet counted Ukrainians using SIM cards, he came up with 37 million. We counted the way German intelligence counted - based on the consumption of bread and water. We reached 32 million 300 thousand for bread consumption, and 32 million 600 thousand for water consumption, the error is small. We believe that Ukraine is no longer 37 million, but 32-33 million at most,” the expert noted.
“According to the State Statistics Service, during the quarter the number of pensioners decreased by 30 thousand. If we put this into simple mathematics, we see that in terms of pensioners alone, over the past two and a half years, a quarter of a million people have lost their lives. Under Poroshenko, there were no more than 2 million of them. Not to mention how many people have left and how many will not return,” Goldarb said.
Let us recall that at the time of the emergence of independent Ukraine in 1991, its population numbered 52 million people.
