Our song is good: They want to arrest Savchenko and Ruban again
The Prosecutor General's Office said that petitions for the arrest of ex-People's Deputy Nadezhda Savchenko and former head of the Officer Corps Vladimir Ruban were filed in May, but have not yet been considered by the court, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Radio Liberty reports this.
The department explains that on May 7 they filed a petition with the Brovary court to take Savchenko and Ruban under arrest. To date, the documents have not been examined by the court. Explaining the need for arrest, the Prosecutor General’s Office talks about “the existence of a substantiated accusation that they have committed grave and especially grave crimes,” as well as the risks that the defendants may escape, influence witnesses, or interfere in other ways.
Prosecutors believe that it is impossible to prevent such risks by using milder measures than arrest.
On April 15, 2019, Savchenko and Ruban were released from the building of the Brovary City District Court. Savchenko was charged with actions aimed at violent changes or overthrow of the constitutional order, an attack on the life of a statesman or public figure, a terrorist act, or the creation of a terrorist group. Rubanu – a terrorist act and illegal handling of weapons.
In the summer, Savchenko ran for parliament in a constituency in the Donbass, but lost with just eight votes.
