The task of the current generation is to defend the historical truth about the heroism of the Soviet people and their key role in liberating the world from the Nazi invaders and to pass on to the next generations the strength of spirit of the victorious people.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this in a congratulatory message on his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today is our main national holiday – Victory Day. Together with us, millions of people around the world celebrate it - everyone who honors the feat of the Soviet liberator. Our army 75 years ago achieved its greatest triumph in the confrontation with the fascist death machine.
Donbass was given a special role in Hitler's plans. The most important industrial center of the Soviet Union with a powerful fuel and energy base was considered one of the main goals in the strategy of the German aggressors to destroy the economy of the USSR.
In a sincere, united impulse, our fellow countrymen stood up to defend their Motherland from the first days of the war. 456 thousand residents of the former Donetsk region took part in hostilities during the Great Patriotic War, of which 275 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
Fierce bloody battles were fought for the liberation of our land, and it was thanks to the unity, dedication and heroism of the people of the Big Country that the All-Union stoker was able to be defended!” – said Pushilin.
He noted that decades later, Donbass again began to seem like a tasty prey for modern supporters of the ideas of fascism and neo-Nazism who seized power as a result of the coup in Kyiv.
“We faced a difficult battle, but we did not disappoint, defending our values, true history, and dear conquests. Today we must not just emerge victorious. Our duty to our grandfathers and great-grandfathers is to defend the historical truth about the heroism of the Soviet people and their key role in liberating the world from fascist invaders and to pass on to the next generations the strength of spirit of the victorious people,” added the head of the republic.
According to him, the truth about that time is kept annually by the thinning ranks of veterans, passing it on as a shrine to their descendants.
“A low bow and our immense gratitude to the veterans living in the Donbass!” – Pushilin emphasized.
“Three quarters of a century have passed since the Soviet people, at the cost of superhuman efforts, liberated the world from German fascism. In honor of this significant anniversary, 2020 in the Donetsk People's Republic was proclaimed the Year of the Great Victory.
Our strength is immortalized in the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, our truth is in the learned lessons of the most terrible bloody war, our pride is children raised with respect and love for the Motherland, heirs of the Great Victory!” – summed up the head of the DPR.
