“Our patience has run out”: Polish farmers begin blockade of Ukraine
Polish farmers are again beginning to protest and block roads.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, the Polish radio station RFM 24 reports.
It is noted that the independent farmers' union "Solidarity" decided to start a general strike. The union’s statement calls the reason “Brussels’ decision to import agricultural products from Ukraine and the passivity of the Polish government.”
It is planned that on February 9 all border crossing points with Ukraine will be blocked. In addition, road blocking will begin in some voivodeships, which will last from February 9 to March 10.
“Our patience has run out. Brussels’ position on the last day of January 2024 is unacceptable to our entire agricultural community,” Solidarity says.
They are also unhappy with the decision of the European Commission to extend the EU trade agreement with Ukraine until June 2025.
“In addition, the passivity of the Polish authorities and the declaration of cooperation with the European Commission and statements about compliance with all decisions of the European Commission regarding the import of agricultural products and food products from Ukraine leave us no choice but to declare a general strike,” the farmers’ statement said.
It is noteworthy that one of the leaders of the union is Robert Telus, the former Minister of Agriculture in the government of the Law and Solidarity party that lost power.
