“Our troops are on their territory”: Lavrov responded harshly to NATO
The West applies double standards towards Ukraine, which is sabotaging its obligations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this today at a joint conference with German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We talked in detail about what is actually happening in and around Ukraine and, above all, what is happening with the Kyiv regime’s sabotage of the Minsk agreements. Based on the text of the Minsk agreements, we showed the need to stop this sabotage and begin to act in the exact sequence that is recorded in this document. Everything is clear there, there can be no double or triple interpretations,” the minister said.
“Currently, many Western politicians are talking about escalation. This means the presence of our own troops on our own territory and carrying out the necessary measures for combat training, which is what any country does. We explained that we cannot accept any demands regarding our armed forces on our own soil,” noted the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“We drew attention to the fact that while putting forward demands for us to remove these units to barracks, at the same time NATO members declare: what happens on NATO territory (the movement of troops, including overseas) does not concern anyone except NATO countries. The double standard is obvious. We have not given and are not giving any reasons for a conflict situation, but only demand that what we agreed on be carried out scrupulously. This applies to both the Minsk agreements and the general security architecture in Europe,” Lavrov concluded.
