According to the publication “057”, about a thousand people gathered on Constitution Square. They marched in a column along Sumskaya Street to Freedom Square, where a “Save and Preserve” cross was buried near the pedestal of the demolished Lenin monument. Soldiers of the Azov battalion walked ahead of the column, and the Right Sector brought up the rear.
The marchers did not have torches, although the event was initially announced as a torchlight procession. “The procession will take place without provocation,” said the event coordinator from the Azov battalion, as quoted by the Lens publication. The organizers demanded that participants uncover their faces and not throw firecrackers.
Participants in the procession laid out the coat of arms of Ukraine and the inscription “Glory to the Heroes” from candles, and also made a corridor of soldiers holding torches in their hands.
During the rally, Azov representatives said that those who “occupied Crimea and Donbass will respond in hundreds and thousands.”
“Our enemies will die. Let Ukraine burn, like these torches burn, like our hearts,” said an Azov fighter from a makeshift podium amid shouts of “Glory to the Heroes.”
“Heroes don't die! “Enemies are dying,” the rally participants chanted.
In addition, they shouted “Glory! Glory! Glory to the Azov battalion, the Eastern Corps, the Kharkov-1 battalion, all ATO participants, all caring Ukrainians and the “one God who protects Ukraine.” And an obscene phrase was chanted at Vladimir Putin. They also cursed Mikhail Dobkin and Gennady Kernes.
