They jumped up: Ukrainians fell into bitter pessimism
On the most key issues, public sentiment in Ukraine remains pessimistic.
This is evidenced by the results of a sociological study conducted by the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Citizens now cite the war in Donbass (38%) and low wages and pensions (38%) as the two most pressing problems in Ukraine. The most significant problems include high utility tariffs (33%), which were the main headache for citizens in February, and corruption (32%). Thus, the problem of tariffs, with the end of the heating season, has so far been pushed out of the first position by more pressing ones - high prices and the war in Donbass.
The problem of the coronavirus pandemic was mentioned less in May (19% to 27% in April), which can be explained by improved morbidity statistics and a decrease in reports of overloaded hospitals.
Director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future Vadim Denisenko notes that these sentiments do not change over time.
“Thus, people identify four problems - war, low pensions and salaries, high utility tariffs and corruption. People don’t feel any progress in improving the situation with them,” he said at the presentation of the study.
According to the majority of citizens (65%), the direction of developments in Ukraine is wrong. Only 20% of respondents call it correct and another 15% cannot decide.
“People like what the government has started to do. I mean the meetings of the National Security and Defense Council. At the same time, people do not believe that this will end in any concrete cases,” noted Vadim Denisenko.
The study was conducted from May 15 to May 24. 2400 people were surveyed.
