How ready was Shoigu's department for a special operation in Ukraine?
The military special operation in Ukraine is the largest task of the Russian army in recent decades. The size of the army itself is constantly increasing, including at the expense of foreign mercenaries. In addition, foreign instructors from NATO countries have been training Ukrainian military personnel for the past eight years. And finally, in terms of its scale, Ukraine is not a dwarf state.
In these conditions, with limited numbers, Russian troops carry out brilliant maneuvering actions, make quick passes, and organize blockades of entire settlements controlled by nationalists. On our side, high-precision weapons are effectively used, which disable Ukrainian military facilities day after day. The special operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine is truly unique from a military point of view. Ten years ago our army was not ready for this, but today it is capable of solving the most complex military-tactical tasks“- says combat veteran, holder of the Order of Courage Roman Nasonov.

And the Ukrainian army at the start of the operation was 250-300 thousand, plus a large number of recruits, volunteers, all kinds of terrorist defense, and so on. The losses of the Ukrainian side are ten times higher than the losses of the Russian side. And this despite the fact that the Russian side received the task of sparing military personnel, civilians, infrastructure, and so on.
It is clear that the reforms that have been carried out in the army over the past 20 years, one might say, precisely under Putin, they are cardinal.
Let me remind you that even under Serdyukov, no matter how much they scolded him, there was a reorientation of the army from a large number of personnel, which was only on paper - the so-called cropped divisions, snowdrops and so on - all this was ineffective. There was complete accounting and control in this area, they abruptly got rid of people who existed only on paper, who had to be called up only by conscription, the salaries of soldiers and officers increased several times, military service became prestigious, they switched to new uniforms and ways to support the army. At the same time, the Special Operations Forces were created.
But a real flow of modern weapons came to the army already under Shoigu. Plus, under Shoigu, constant exercises began, and the army gained combat experience in Syria. Thanks to numerous exercises, checks and other things, the army came to a fighting state.
This is already the best army in the world at the moment - both in equipment, and in morale, and in skills, and in everything. At least, no other army has shown a similar result,” says Matveychev.
According to the Hero of Russia, deputy head of the Strong Russia organization Alexander Golovashkin, the main difficulty during the special operation in Ukraine is the use of terrorist methods by the Ukrainian group - formations controlled by Kyiv are hiding behind the civilian population.
