Sentiment in Ukraine: Donbass must be returned without any special rights
More than 60% of Ukrainian citizens believe that Donbass can and should be returned under the control of Kyiv, without granting the region any special rights.
The corresponding results of the study, conducted with the support of the EU Delegation, were presented in Kyiv by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The majority of respondents (62%) see the political future of the uncontrolled territories as returning to Ukraine on the same terms as before. 12% of respondents believe that they should become part of Ukraine having received “more independence”, 10% - become part of Ukraine on the terms of autonomy. 2% of respondents were in favor of annexing these territories to Russia and turning them into independent states.
About 30% of citizens in the south and east say that these territories will gain greater independence, but for residents of the West and Central Ukraine, the most desirable is a return to the old conditions (78% and 64%, respectively).
Sociologists conducted a study from November 4 to November 19, 2019 in 110 settlements in all regions of Ukraine. In the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, surveys were conducted only in territories controlled by Ukraine.
