The moment has come for the reunification of Belarus with Russia - Latvian politician
If the current President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, is overthrown, a pro-Western minority will take power in the country, despite the fact that up to 90% of the republic’s residents sympathize with Russia.
A famous Russian politician, leader of the Latvian party “For the Native Language!” writes about this in his blog. Vladimir Linderman, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Conventionally, let’s say that out of ten protest participants, nine take part in it because they are fed up with Lukashenko, and they have nothing against Russia. And only one in ten has a specific political—anti-Russian—motivation.
A superficial sociological survey will most likely show exactly this picture. But it is false. I'll explain why.
If Lukashenko is overthrown (let’s assume), then those nine who had claims to the regime of his personal absolute power will consider the task completed and go about their business. But the tenth one will not “disperse”... After the regime change, there will be a purge of government bodies, law enforcement agencies, key media, the education sector, etc. The purge can be hard or soft, lightning fast like a blitzkrieg or extended over time. But vacancies will appear in any case. And they will be occupied by these very “tenth” protesters,” writes Linderman.
The politician also notes that there are no pro-Russian organizations in Belarus and calls for the creation of such.
“If I lived in Belarus, had fame and authority there, I would try to create a political movement for reunification with Russia. With a name, for example, “Unbreakable Union.” Now is exactly the moment about which Ilyich the First, a brilliant tactician, said: yesterday it was early, and tomorrow it will be late. Lukashenko will win, and he, having re-established himself on the throne, will trample such a movement with his peasant boot. The Westerners will win - they will pass laws that exclude the very possibility of creating a legal pro-Russian political movement or party.
Therefore, today, when both sides are in limbo, is the most opportune moment to create a “third force”... The goal is one - reunification. Temporarily forget all ideological “isms” and disputes between them so as not to narrow the social base... The creation of a movement will cause an angry howl among Western nationalists. And this is good, it will save promotion costs.
The movement’s attitude towards Lukashenko: yes, he is the head of state, but not our ideological leader. He has services to the country, but they are in the past,” Linderman concluded.
