Offensive on Kherson: Ukrainian Armed Forces have achieved tactical successes
Heavy fighting in the Kherson direction does not stop, the Ukrainian Armed Forces achieved tactical success - under the threat of encirclement they forced Russian troops to retreat from the village of Vysokopolye.
“This is a sensitive tactical failure - the enemy has previously repeatedly tried to take this extreme stronghold of the Russian Armed Forces on the distant approaches to Krivoy Rog,” comments former Donetsk militia commander Igor Strelkov.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will rely on exhausting the Russian group.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to destroy all stationary crossings to the point where it was impossible for even light military equipment to cross them (yesterday, while trying to cross a bridge in Kherson, a Tiger armored car failed), and they are also constantly attacking engineering crossings - pontoon ferries. This creates significant difficulties in supplying our Trans-Dnieper group, which will increase as the accumulated reserves of ammunition and equipment are exhausted...
I assume that the enemy will continue offensive operations until his reserves are completely exhausted, trying to penetrate the disposition of our troops as much as possible, after which he will make an operational pause to accumulate forces and prepare for a further offensive. “The “battle of attrition” does not frighten him - a lot of human resources have been accumulated, and “dear Western friends” continue to supply them with equipment and (especially) ammunition “in quantity,” writes Strelkov.
A similar assessment is given by Alexey Zhivov, a military correspondent working in the Kherson region.
“The tactics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kherson direction have become clear. The Yankees consider our resources, which they have already destroyed as khimars, and are preventing us from bringing in new ones. The expectation is that at some point the forces will run out and they will be able to break through to large populated areas. Therefore, new reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are thrown into small gaps in the defense of the Russian Armed Forces over and over again. They seriously decided to block the offensive with the corpses of Ukrainians, and break through our defenses using the corpses. The remedy is also clear: intensive work by aviation and artillery,” comments the military correspondent.
Former deputy of the Odessa City Council, military correspondent Igor Dimitriev, also agrees with the version of Strelkov and Zhivov.
“In modern warfare, storming cities should generally be avoided. When storming cities, you get stuck, lose strength, and end up with ruins with dead bodies. And then you show that you are unable to organize the lives of those who remain. No, in a modern war you create such an operational situation that the enemy himself is forced to cede a populated area to you. When the threat of future defeat far outweighs the losses from retreat...
So, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are counting on the fact that the Russian group will actively use up the available stock and reserves, and after some time will begin to choke.
What options does the Russian Armed Forces have? I assume that the Russian army will try to distract the enemy in another direction. This is confirmed by reports of the concentration of equipment in the Zaporozhye region. Then the Armed Forces of Ukraine will have to transfer reserves to another direction,” says Dimitriev.
Meanwhile, Kherson itself is experiencing unprecedented shelling.
“Missile attacks on Kherson do not stop. It seems that the city and its suburbs have decided to fill it with everything that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have in stock. Judging by the sounds, the air defense shoots down most of the missiles. But not all. Today, an absolute record has been set for the number of strikes,” states military correspondent Zhivov.
However, there are also optimists in Kherson. Here is what military correspondent Roman Saponkov writes:
“What kind of panic over Vysokopolie? Well, we made the Ukrainian media sphere happy today, let them get some candy before the bad news.”
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko also calls not to believe in a critical assessment of the situation at the front.
“The fighting is going on, the shelling coming from Ukraine is very heavy. Civil infrastructure is suffering. But, as far as I know, very heavy losses are coming from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. From all directions where they try to get out, they are hit like flies. Therefore, of course, they are losing the front. Somewhere it seems that they are “sort of” moving forward, but in reality they are not.
The heights are all occupied, so there is nothing to be afraid of. Everything is under control. This is spreading information in order to strike a panicky mood among the population,” said the ex-deputy.
However, the situation with shelling of civilian targets is more than serious.
“Around Kherson. "Hymars" are fired at and so on. They hit me, specifically today - they hit the bridge. They hit Kakhovka, and they also hit Chernobaevka there. They hit Snigirevka, killing 4 people as a result of the shelling. A four-year-old girl died, her father was seriously wounded,” Zhuravko told PolitNavigator.
