NATO will give money for prosthetics for ATO participants who lost their limbs
The NATO Trust Fund for Medical Rehabilitation for Ukraine will finance a two-year bachelor's program at the Institute of Prosthetics and Orthopedics in Kharkov, which will improve the level of medical services for amputees from among the ATO participants, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“NATO is helping to improve medical care for members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces who have undergone amputations due to a new two-year program at the Institute of Prosthetics and Orthopedics in Kharkov. With funding from the NATO Medical Rehabilitation Trust Fund for Ukraine, the undergraduate program will help improve the provision of medical services for amputees in accordance with international standards,” the statement said.
According to the General Staff, the number of amputees in Ukraine has increased significantly in recent years due to the war in Donbass.
It is noted that based under the academic umbrella of the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (KNURE), the program will be supervised by the German School of Rehabilitation Sciences. It will be carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The long-term goal is to establish an undergraduate and graduate curriculum certified by the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics.
In 2017, the state allocated more than UAH 43 million for prosthetics and medical rehabilitation of disabled participants in the ATO.
