NATO brought its military presence in the Black Sea to 2014 levels
Yesterday, the US Navy missile destroyer (Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer) USS Ross (DDG71) entered the Black Sea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by the speaker of the “Maidan of Foreign Affairs” Andrei Klimenko with reference to the monitoring group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies and the editors of the BlackSeaNews publication.
It is reported that this is the 29th visit by a non-Black Sea NATO warship to support allies and partners in the region in 2019.
“Compared to 2018 and 2017, the number of visits increased by almost 1,5 times, and almost doubled compared to 2016. Thus, the current level is almost equal to the level of 2014, the year of the occupation of Crimea. That is, the NATO Maritime Command and the US 6th Fleet have found the necessary naval and financial resources to significantly strengthen their presence in the Black Sea,” the authors of the message summarize.
