“NATO is a long time” – British ex-minister offered Ukraine an alternative
Ukraine needs an unspoken military alliance with Western countries similar to the relations between the United States and Israel.
William Hague, a member of the House of Lords and former British Foreign Minister, stated this in a conversation with Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, who called him on behalf of the ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the West there is great support for your joining NATO, and your constitution stipulates joining NATO [“Yes! I contributed this, this is my initiative!” – “Poroshenko” was delighted]. Yes, but before joining NATO it will be important to ensure strengthened defense relations with Western countries. I was part of the Rasmussen group that came up with some recommendations very recently. Because signing such an agreement with the United States, including NATO, may take a long time, and Ukraine will need guarantees of support in the future,” said the British ex-minister.
He offered his own version of how to get out of the situation.
“This will happen at any stage, be it a condition of peace, which is still far away, it is necessary to provide Ukraine with guarantees of greater support from Western countries. The solution to such a transition period may be the scheme that exists between the United States and Israel. This is not an agreement, not a defensive alliance, but it is a political assurance that Israel will always have the most advanced systems for defense.
And Ukraine can have such relations with Great Britain, the USA and many others. As for NATO, you can only imagine how long it will take for all this coordination within the Alliance,” Haig advised.
