NATO is preparing for a new war in Kosovo
The NATO bloc intends to revive an abandoned airport in Albania, from which drone attacks on Serbia were carried out in 1999, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The alliance intends to invest €50 million in the modernization of the Albanian Air Force air base in the city of Kučova, 80 km south of Tirana, and turn it into the first air base in the Balkans.
“In 1999, NATO flew drones from here during the Kosovo War. Despite being a Muslim-majority country, Albanians are fiercely pro-American, in part due to American support for the Kosovars against the Serbs at the time. NATO officials are hiding their concerns about what the Russians might be doing in the Western Balkans. But the money they are investing in Kucova tells a different story,” writes The Economist.
In addition, the Pentagon is funding the construction of a radar station in the mountains. Albanian Defense Minister Olta Haka said her country would become “the eyes of NATO in the region.” Albania has been a NATO member since 2009.
