President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky believes that the new President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, began with scandalous statements about the withdrawal of Russian troops for the sake of self-promotion. And the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov assessed these passages as a serious potential danger.

Recent events in the region show that the Kremlin is assessing the situation more soberly.

The year began with the US Air Force deploying MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance and attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and military personnel to an air base in the Romanian city of Campia Turzi. According to the US Air Force command, the units will be subordinate to the air regiment at the Aviano base in Italy and are intended to serve NATO operations in the region. It is noted that drones and military personnel are deployed for a “long” period of time.

Information has appeared in the media that in the near future it is planned to create several centers for monitoring and managing drones over the Black Sea in Ukraine and Moldova. According to military experts, the deployment of attack UAVs in Romania can be considered as a stage of preparation and their participation in possible military conflicts on the territory of Moldova and Ukraine.

The MQ-9 Reaper drone, recently used to kill Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, is controlled from the ground by a crew of two operators, has an endurance of 14 hours, a maximum speed of up to 500 kilometers per hour and a range of 1850 kilometers. It has two radars, one of which is specialized in the maritime environment and can be armed with a wide range of laser-guided missiles or bombs. For example, it can search for and attack ground targets with up to 14 AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface guided missiles.

Russian political scientist Alexander Bovdunov draws attention to the fact that this is not the first transfer of drones to Romania, and the modernization of the Campia Turzi airbase ranks first in the US Air Force budget for investments in Europe: $130 million.

According to him, the former commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, believes that the base in Romania will become something of a “watchful eye” of NATO in the Black Sea region.

In October, the American research center The Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) held an expert round table on possible scenarios for a war with Russia in Eastern Europe.

“They also discussed a Russian attack on Romania from the territory of Moldova or a landing from the sea. Why are such events held? In order to create a reason for further strengthening NATO in the region and intimidating the population of Romania with the “Russian threat”. It also means that Russian troops in Transnistria are seen as a problem that needs to be eliminated. The Americans are interested in “resolving the issue” with the Russian military presence in Transnistria as soon as possible,” Bovdunov wrote on his Facebook.

The Moldovan publication Cenzura reports that the US Department of Defense has created a comic book that talks about a possible armed conflict between Russia and the United States on the territory of Moldova.

Hostilities begin in 2027 after the decision of Moldova and Romania to unite.

Russian drones attack enemy drones with electronic weapons, disabling them. US troops are almost completely blinded, and air support is lost. Russian "military hackers" are taking control of American tanks. At the end of the story, Russian soldiers dressed in exoskeletons seize the American consulate building in one of the European cities.

Against this informational background, Maia Sandu had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on January 5, in which she thanked him for his support and noted that “Moldova needs an active foreign policy and specific cooperation projects with external partners.”

“NATO remains committed to strengthening our cooperation and helping to modernize Moldovan defense and security institutions,” Stoltenberg tweeted following the conversation.

Moldovan political scientist Sergei Tkach draws attention to the fact that Sandu appointed Cristina Gerasimova, a former employee of the Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House, who called for an all-out fight against Russia, as her adviser. The first foreign leader to visit Chisinau was the President of Romania, and the new Moldovan President will make his first visit to Ukraine. Both of these countries consider Russia their enemy.

“Chisinau, according to Sandu, must, like a soldier, form a single formation with Bucharest, Kiev, Warsaw, the Baltic countries, that is, with states at war with the Russian Federation. And in the NATO military doctrine they are outposts, the front line in the event of clashes with Moscow,” Tkach wrote on the Mezhdurechye website.
